Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to Odia freedom fighter and social activist Parvati Giri in his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme, announcing that her birth centenary will be celebrated in January 2026. Speaking on the 129th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi stated that the country will be celebrating the 77th Republic Day.
He also encouraged citizens to explore the “Unsung Heroes” section on the government’s freedom struggle portal. Parvati Giri joined the fight for freedom at the age of only 16. She dedicated her life to social work and welfare. To help the orphaned children, she had opened many orphanage in the state. Her life style will continue to inspire today’s youth.
Highlighting the role of Parvati Giri, Modi said that her birth centenary will be celebrated in January 2026. He recalled that she had joined the Quit India Movement at the young age of 16 and had displayed immense courage and commitment to the freedom struggle.
The Prime Minister also spoke about her life after independence, stating that Parvati Giri dedicated herself to social service and tribal welfare. She established several orphanages and worked tirelessly for the upliftment of underprivileged communities.
Describing her life as deeply inspiring, Modi said that Parvati Giri’s dedication and service will continue to guide future generations. He concluded by paying heartfelt tribute to the freedom fighter from Odisha.
