North India continues to reel under severe cold conditions due to the impact of a western disturbance, with several states recording unusually low minimum temperatures.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is little chance of relief from the biting cold over the next 3 to 4 days. Snowfall activity may begin in Kashmir from January 16.
A cold wave is likely to affect Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha in the next two days.
Some areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh may also experience “cold day” conditions wherein daytime temperatures remain appreciably lower than normal.
Fog of varying intensity and dispersion, including dense and very dense, is likely to affect the next few days in northwest India, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and surrounding areas, especially during the morning and night hours.
On the other hand, southern states are likely to experience a gradual withdrawal of northeast monsoon rainfall.
