A mob in Bangladesh lynched another Hindu man. The deceased has been identified as Amrit Mandal alias Samrat. Regarding the killing in the Pangsha area of Rajbari, police claimed that Amrit Mandal was killed by a mob on charges of extortion.
According to a report in the Daily Star, police said that villagers attacked him on Wednesday (December 24, 2025), after which the administration arrived at the scene. Police have detained one of Samrat’s associates, Mohammad Salim. Weapons, including a pistol, were recovered from him.
According to the police, Amrit Mandal had allegedly formed an organization called Samrat Bahini and was involved in extortion in the surrounding areas. He had fled to India during the Awami League government’s tenure. He had recently returned to Bangladesh.
Police say that two cases, including one for murder, were registered against Samrat. Local people told the police that Samrat was allegedly running a criminal gang. Amrit Mandal was from the same village where he was killed.
According to the report, villagers said, “Amrit Mandal went to a man’s house in the old market area of Husaindanga and demanded ransom. But when the man refused to pay the ransom, other members of Samrat Bahini broke into his house on December 24.
When they couldn’t find the head of the household, they started beating his son. The family members then started shouting ‘thief, thief,’ and villagers gathered and beat Samrat. One of his associates was also caught by the villagers.”
Police admitted Amrit Mandal to the hospital in critical condition, but doctors declared him dead. Earlier, Dipu Chandra Das was lynched by a mob in Bangladesh, and his body was later set on fire. Initially, it was said that he was killed on charges of blasphemy, but later police clarified that they found no such evidence.
Following Dipu Das’s killing, protests were held against the Yunus government in several countries, including India.
