The Excise Department registered 269 cases and seized contraband valued at ₹1.27 crore on the eleventh day of its ongoing Special Enforcement Drive, which commenced on December 20.
According to official figures, 60 persons were arrested during the day’s enforcement operations, including six cases booked under the NDPS Act. Thirteen vehicles were seized in connection with the violations.
The seizures included 13,618 bulk litres of illicitly distilled liquor, 635 bulk litres of duty-paid liquor and 5 litres of duplicate liquor. Other recoveries comprised 1,10,140 bulk litres of fermented wash, 4,550 kg of gur wash and 360 kg of mahua flowers. Narcotics seized during the operations included 54 kg of ganja and 80 grams of brown sugar.
In addition, Excise units in Koraput and Malkangiri registered two cases relating to the illegal cultivation of hemp plants, destroying hemp plants worth 3.03 crore
Officials said the sustained enforcement drive is aimed at dismantling illicit liquor production and narcotics networks through coordinated, intelligence-led action across the State.
